Differences Between 2019 Chevrolet Malibu & 2019 Toyota Camry
Serving Columbus, OH, Louisville, KY, and Springfield, OH
As both long-running and widely popular midsize sedan nameplates, the Chevrolet Malibu and the Toyota Camry are at different places in their production lives for the 2019 model year. The Malibu is the recipient of a refresh as it hit the midpoint of its ninth production cycle. The Camry had just started its eighth production cycle the year before, so it doesn’t have a lot of changes. The midsize sedan market may be more competitive than ever before, but in this head-to-head matchup, it’s the Malibu that triumphs due to the following factors:
Performance
If you want a ride quality that’s as smooth as possible, you can go with a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu that has a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine pinned to a continuously variable transmission, or CVT. Because it gets rid of the gear-shifting mechanism of traditional transmissions, the CVT provides a smoother drive than the 2019 Toyota Camry, which uses an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Interior
These days, it’s common for midsize cars to have apps that enable you to use your smartphone as a remote control for your infotainment interface. With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, you can get directions, make phone calls, listen to music, and send and receive text messages—while staying focused on the road. The aforementioned apps are standard on the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. For years after Android Auto and Apple CarPlay debuted, the Camry was notorious for not offering them. The 2019 model year marks the debut of Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration. However, there’s no Android Auto, which means that you are out of luck if you have an Android device, such as a Samsung Galaxy, LG G-series, or Google Pixel smartphone.
Safety
Both the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2019 Toyota Camry are handsomely equipped with standard safety features. In either vehicle, you can expect to find electronic vehicle stability and traction control, anti-lock braking, and a robust airbag system that includes knee airbags for both driver and front passenger. However, if you are going to have your teenage son or daughter driving your midsize quite often, it’s best you get the Malibu, since it comes with Teen Driver. Relying on studies that show that in comparison to adults, teenage drivers are more likely to make poor decisions, Teen Driver technology enables you to control certain features to encourage safer driving. This includes muting audio until both front-seat occupants are buckled, restricting maximum vehicle speed to 85 mph, and activating audible and visual warnings when the vehicle is traveling over the pre-selected speed. Also, there’s an in-vehicle report card that shows information about teens’ driving to identify potential problem areas and coach them on making improvements.
