Differences Between 2018 Chevrolet Traverse & 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe

Serving Columbus, OH, Louisville, KY, and Springfield, OH

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe has some new competition from within the family. The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse has grown bigger and better equipped. Shoppers will be happy with more options, and families will be better served by the Chevy family. Here’s how the two compare.

Performance

The Traverse has a V6 engine that spits out 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. This certainly keeps the three-row ride moving. However, Chevy is offering an alternative that may tempt many shoppers. The new turbo kicks out 255 horsepower and a whopping 295 lb-ft of torque. Drivers will appreciate a nine-speed HydraMatic transmission for precision and efficiency. Chevy has added a traction control dial which allows the driver to signal to the car systems about snow and other challenges. This family ride can tow as much as 5,000 pounds. Front-wheel drive is standard with four-wheel drive on the menu.

Bigger, the Tahoe has a V8 engine. This generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. Active grille shutters help improve efficiency. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and Chevy has added a locking rear differential to ensure better traction. Two four-wheel drive systems are on the menu. The Tahoe Premier edition has adaptive ride control which reads the road in milliseconds and adjusts to conditions. A second engine choice is an even more powerful V8 that is paired with a ten-speed automatic. Also used for the Silverado, this engine generates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque with a tow rating of 8,600 pounds.

Size and Style

The new Traverse now has 157.3 cu.ft. of passenger volume. Passenger space is best-in-class, and third-row legroom is best in class. It certainly doesn’t skimp on cargo space. The 23 cu.ft.-hold is best in class. If you fold the seats, you’ll find 58 cu.ft. or 98 cu.ft. The Tahoe is a big three-row, too. Cargo volume is 52 cu.ft. behind the second row and 95 cu.ft. behind the first row. You can seat seven, eight or nine in this big rig and still have wiggle room.

Features

With three trims, the Tahoe has a Premier trim for luxury lovers. The Traverse, which has six trims and several sub-trims, has a sporty mid-tier RS edition as well as a leather-clad High Country edition. Drivers can get power chairs, power-adjustable pedals, and a power-adjustable steering wheel on Traverse and Tahoe models. Other common features include the hands-free power liftgate, push button start, and a programmable HVAC system. While the Tahoe has a power-fold third row, the Traverse has new Smart Slide second-row seats. On both, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standards with the Chevy MyLink touchscreen. Crash avoidance systems include a surround-view camera, a blind spot monitor, and a forward collision autobrake.
