Serving Columbus, OH, Louisville, KY, and Springfield, OH

As light-duty pickup trucks, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 compete against each other on the American market. Both vehicles have similar mechanical platforms, as evident by the EcoTec3 powertrain. However, the 2018 Silverado 1500 has a slight edge in handling and digital technology.

Performance

The 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500's 4.3 L V6 engine produces up to 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. Featuring a V8 configuration, the 5.3 L engine yields a maximum of 355 hp and just under 385 lb-ft. Also having eight cylinders, the 6.2 L engine delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. Every powertrain in this Chevy pickup truck runs on the Active Fuel Management and variable valve timing. Additionally, the 4.3 L and 5.3 L engines have FlexFuel compatibility. Interestingly, the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is also available with the same engines as the Silverado 1500. However, the all-new eAssist technology differentiates the powertrain of this GMC model. Both pickup trucks are available with automatic transmission systems that have six or eight gear speeds. Each model is also powerful enough to tow a trailer that weighs up to 12,500 pounds.

Handling

An automatic rear differential with a lock is installed in the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500. This mechanical component significantly improves traction on mud, dirt and other rough surfaces. Linked to multiple sensors that monitor wheel spin, the Eaton lockers make the appropriate adjustments to the axles. This versatile Chevy pickup truck can roll on rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4x4 drive. Similarly, the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with two types of drivetrain configurations. This GMC model also has a two-speed transfer case that comes with the patented Autotrac technology. A floor-mounted shifter stabilizes the transfer case in tough situations. When the Chevy Silverado 1500 pulls a heavy trailer, the Tow/Haul Mode provides a helpful boost. The classic StabiliTrak system is also paired with the Trailer Sway Control to improve balance on the road. The Auto Grade Braking prevents this Chevy pickup truck from rolling too fast on a downward gradient. Additionally, the Duralife rotors boost the performance of the brakes.

Technology

An 8.0-inch touch screen is available in the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. As expected, the traditional Chevrolet MyLink platform is installed in the cockpit of the Silverado 1500. The infotainment system in the Sierra 1500 has been partially developed by GMC. Both pickup trucks offer GPS navigation systems with maps that have multiple views in color. Traffic and weather updates by SiriusXM are also included in the navigation systems of these vehicles. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth offer great mobile connectivity in the cabins. These trucks also have 4G LTE WiFi for several devices at the same time.
