One of the new engine choices on the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a Duramax 3.0L inline six-cylinder turbodiesel. The 5.3L V8 is one of the currently offered engines, and this will carry over for 2019. There's also a powerful 6.2L V8 that produces a total of 420 horsepower. Transmission is automatic, with 10-speed offered on certain trims and powertrain combos. A new change for the V8 engines is the introduction of the cylinder disabling feature that can shut down multiple cylinders when the extra power isn't needed, saving the owner big on fuel costs. All versions and trims can be purchased with AWD. The 2019 Silverado 1500, when properly equipped with a towing package, can tow more than 12,500 pounds.

Interior and Features

The regular cab configuration can seat up to three and features a split front bench seat. The extended cabs have a large storage area behind the rear seats, and the crew cabs are four-door with foldable rear seats. Standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, power locks, and vinyl seating. The uplevel trims can be purchased with leather upholstery, carpeting, lumbar support for the driver seat, and full power accessories. Technology features include a rearview camera and driver information display. The high-end trims will come with an 8-inch screen display and smartphone compatibility. Buyers either get the MyLink interface as standard equipment or can add it on as a stand-alone option.

Safety

Every 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is equipped with front and front-side airbags, and the crew cab models have side-curtain bags for the rear seating area. The roll-form steel frame is stronger than what is found on the current 2018 models, and this will help increase safety scores. Stability control and traction control are standard, and the Enhanced Driver Alert package can be added onto all but the base trim. This package includes lane departure warning, automatic high beam headlights, forward collision warning, and emergency low-speed braking.
