The top-of-the-line Premier trim relies on a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which produces 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and is tied to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The other models are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 engine that produces 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain configuration produces the best fuel economy on the Malibu, which is measured at 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

Interior and Features

As a five-seater, the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu provides 102.9 cubic feet of passenger volume and 15.8 cubic feet of standard cargo volume. Upgrades to the cabin include leather upholstery, driver-side 8-way power and power lumbar support, front-passenger 6-way power and power lumbar support, and front-seat heating capability. Standard comfort and convenience features include cruise control, six-speaker audio, an AM/FM radio tuner, and remote keyless entry. Upgrading to a higher trim offer additions or enhancements such as dual-zone automatic climate control, remote vehicle start, a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access, steering-wheel heating capability, voice-activation technology, a 4.2-inch color driver information center, Bluetooth® wireless technology, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, Chevrolet MyLink® with a 7-inch color touchscreen (or 8-inch color touchscreen navigation), a complimentary three-month SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription, a nine-speaker Bose® audio system, and dual rear console-located charging-only USB ports.

For safety and security, the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu starts off with features such as 10 airbags, StabiliTrak® (for electronic vehicle stability control), four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, daytime running lamps, a theft-deterrent system that combines remote keyless entry, a panic alarm, and vehicle immobilization, and a pair of OnStar® subscriptions for services and functions such as dealer maintenance notification, automatic crash response, turn-by-turn navigation, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle assistance. Upgrading above the S trim increases your chances of getting additions or enhancements such as a rear vision camera, Teen Driver mode, and brighter and longer-lasting LEDs on the daytime running lamps in place of halogen bulbs.
