Performance
The base engine in the 2018 Chevy Impala is a 2.5L four-cylinder that produces a total of 197 horsepower. The engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, and power is sent to the front wheels. This engine and transmission combo won't result in record-breaking acceleration, but fuel efficiency is very good. If you really need the extra boost, you can choose the 3.6L, 305-horsepower V6. This is the standard engine on the Premier trim, but you can have it as a stand-alone option on the LS and LT trims. The Impala promises obedient handling, and the automatic shifting is smooth and quick.

Interior and Features
The Impala has always been known for its spacious interior, and even with the thick roof pillars, outward visibility is pretty good. The seats are slightly elevated above the average height, so getting in and out is a breeze. The carpet and upholstery is soft and inviting, and the color tones are warm but not too harsh. There's plenty of headroom and legroom in both the front and rear seating areas. Standard features on the base LS trim include sound-insulating laminated windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The highly acclaimed Chevy MyLink infotainment system is also standard on the LS trim. The uplevel LT adds on dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front-passenger lumbar adjustment, and some interior trim upgrades. The Premier trim boasts leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a sunroof. Several package options are available, and these add on most of the standard features of the Premium trim to the LT version.

Safety
Chevrolet has really stepped up its game when it comes to standard safety features on the 2018 models. All Impala versions have a rearview camera, safety alerts on the nice 8-inch screen display, the LATCH system of child seat anchors and tethers, and a full set of airbags including side-curtain bags for the rear seating area. The LT trim can be purchased with rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. These are standard on the Premier trim.
